I've had your second idea as well, some time ago -- I even
started writing some specs for how it should act, in what
ways I wanted to be able to configure it and so on, but I
never quite got down to putting it into effect in pure code
-- other cool ideas for modules I wanted to make have come
between. :-)

Should someone be interested in my thoughts, I might be able
to dig them up.
